The Application of RFID Technology in Food Safety Management

The Application of RFID Technology in Food Safety Management
RFID technology, with its characteristics of "non-contact batch identification, information traceability, and strong anti-counterfeiting", has achieved full chain transparent control from production to consumption in food and drug safety management, effectively solving problems such as low traceability efficiency, difficult anti-counterfeiting, and lagging quality monitoring in traditional management.
The Application of RFID in Food Safety Management
The core requirements of food safety management are "full chain traceability (from source to table)", "quality status monitoring (such as temperature and humidity)", "anti-counterfeiting and anti smuggling". RFID achieves precise control through tag and system collaboration:
1. Full chain traceability: visual tracking from planting/breeding to retail
(1) Planting/breeding process
Wear RFID ear tags (unique identification of animals) on livestock and poultry, record breed, date of birth, vaccination records (such as time of swine fever vaccine), and breeding environment (temperature, feed type); Crops (such as vegetables and fruits) are labeled on plots or seedling pots at the planting base, recording fertilization time, pesticide usage (whether it meets safety standards), and growth cycle..
(2) Processing stage
When raw materials enter the processing plant, the RFID card reader automatically identifies the raw material label and compares it with the purchase order to confirm source compliance; During the processing, the label records the processing time, operator, sterilization temperature (such as the 85 ℃/15 second parameter for milk pasteurization), and batch information to ensure that the processing flow meets food safety standards.
(3) Transportation and warehousing processes
Cold chain transport vehicles are equipped with RFID tags and temperature and humidity sensors to record the temperature of the cabin in real time (such as fresh food needs to be kept at 0-4 ℃), and the data is automatically uploaded to the management system. If the temperature exceeds the standard (such as suddenly rising to 10 ℃), the system immediately pushes an alarm message to the administrator (to avoid food spoilage).
The fixed card reader at the warehouse entrance recognizes the incoming food labels and automatically updates the inventory quantity; Match with the order when leaving the warehouse to prevent misdelivery or expired food from flowing out (the system can set a "near expiration warning", such as prohibiting food that is 3 days away from expiration from leaving the warehouse).
(4) Retail process
Food products (such as pre packaged snacks and meat) on supermarket shelves are labeled with RFID tags. Consumers can scan them with their mobile phones or supermarket terminals to view "full chain traceability information" (such as origin, processing date, and transportation temperature records); Supermarket employees use handheld card readers to quickly conduct inventory checks, completing inventory verification of thousands of items within one hour, while identifying expired/expired food (with an accuracy rate of over 99.5%).
2. Anti counterfeiting and anti smuggling: Eliminate counterfeiting and cross regional illegal circulation
Anti counterfeiting: a unique ID is embedded in the food label (which cannot be copied), and it is bound to the database of the production enterprise. When consumers scan the code, the system verifies the authenticity of the ID (such as the RFID label of a brand of Baijiu, the scanning code can display "official certification" or "counterfeit tips").
