A few days ago, following the announcement of price increases by Renesas Electronics, the leading automotive chip manufacturer NXP (NXP Semiconductors, referred to as "NXP") price increase letter came out again: On November 26, NXP told customers that it was affected by the new crown epidemic. November 20,2020

Subject : Price Increases

Dear Valued Customer,

I hope that I find you well in these challenging times.

The effects of the COVID-19 virus continmue to have an uprecedented impact on trade and commerce affecting us both as suppliers and as customers. As a result,we are facing a severe shortage of our products as well as a significant increase in the cost of material used to manufacture those products. To address the unforeseen inrease in costs from our sppliers,we reluctantly must raise pricing on all products. This step is necessary to ensure we are able to obtain supply of materials and services to complete manufacturing of the products for sale to you.

We uderstand that this is a difficult time, and ask for your support. Please reach out to yor NXP account representative with any questions.

According to relevant sources, the supply of wafers will continue to be tight in the coming year, and the price increase of NXP's products may take 5%. Some products require customers to sign a one-year NCNR (no cancellation or return) agreement.

The information on the chip spot market also verifies the shortage of NXP products to a certain extent:
The shortage of goods was shown to the full in November. The original factory's production capacity and raw materials were insufficient, and the delivery time was elongated. The current standard delivery time is 20 weeks+, and there are frequent ticket bounces. Pay attention to the delivery time; the car materials are in short supply; the current delivery is in short supply; NFC The supply of chips continues to be tight. The most popular NQ310/NQ330 are currently in short supply. At the same time, the replacement material number PN553/PN80T is also unavailable.

It is expected that this wave of shortages will continue until Q2 of 2021. No good improvement is currently seen before Q2. It is recommended that those in need can be placed in advance.
